Exciting projects!

A few weeks ago, I cam a across a fairly interesting piece of old manuscript called ‘Sinfonie di Varij Autori’ out of the Biblioteca Palatina di Parma. In it, more than 20 sonata specifically composed or arranged for the recorder, a good testimony of the recorder scene in Italy in the first half the 18th century.

This music kind of grew on me, seeing a kind of sweet, yet live-full honesty within the fairly surprising figures this music offers sometime. I had the chance to perform one its sonatas recently, the F-Major sonata by Giacomo Ferronati in Tel Aviv and I’m happy to share its recording with you today.

I’ll probably be performing some more of this for my recital upcoming June, but it certainly gave me ideas for the future… So hopefully, more to come… Until then, you can listen the witty-full sonata by Giacomo (or possibly Ludovico) Ferronati here.

Double silver medalist!

I’m delighted to announce that I received the 2nd prize - Category 3 (soloists up to the age of 26 studying in an academic institute) at the Tel Aviv Recorder Competition last week in Israel.

I was also in contention for the Special Prize for Best Performance of an Israeli piece to which I was also awarded the 2nd prize.

I return humbled from this experience, whilst getting out of my comfort zone has given me the opportunity for self-growth and empowerment. I’ve evolved both as an individual & a musician, giving me the strength to keep doing what I do with passion.

Getting out of your comfort zone is so enriching, that it should inspire us to constantly be hard towards what we know, and curious towards what we don’t. In that aspect, it will make us all more kind and compassionate humans. Something we should all strive for!

Cheers!

Take part in the survey!

As mentionned before, my research is centered around historical instruments : before describing the process of making a copy of an original recorder, I wish to contextualise those instruments in today’s Early Music world.

How important are those old objects to young promising artists stuyding ‘Historically Informed Practice’? How are those regarded by professional musicians, if known at all? How important are they for instrument makers?

This is where you come in! Are you a professional musician playing any kind of medieval, renaissance or baroque instrument, or are you currently studying in order to become one? Are you an instrument maker, with or without experience with authentic instruments?

You are then very welcome to take part in this survey by clicking on the following link:

Any participation will be highly appreciated, and will be of great help for my research. You know other fellow musicians, or builders? Feel free to share around. The more people take part, the more relevant it becomes!

Thank you very much in advance!

New instruments in my collection!

You’ve seen it! On my newly created Instagram account, I’ve posted this picture showing 4 (yes, four!) new instruments!

On the left, a beautifully made (and sublime sounding) voice-flute after P. Bressan built by Ralf Netsch in Germany.

In the middle, an elegant F-alto after J.J. Rippert built in Italy by The Francesco LiVirghi.

And on the right, built quite some time ago, a strong and powerful C-soprano built by the late H. Coolsma.

Oh yes, and under it, a harpsichord…

I am a teacher!

Yes you heard it!

I’m very pleased to announce I’ll have the opportunity to share my love for my instrument, and for music to young kids, teenagers and adults at the Muziekschool Oost-Gelderland in Doetinchem, the Netherlands!

I’m very happy to engage in a long-term teaching commitment that’ll allow me to accompany students through their personal and ensemble practice on the long run!

Are you interested in the recorder? Do you want to have a try? Feel free to contact me or sign-up on the website of the school right here!
